Baby Props

I made more baby props for my friend over at Shanna Chess Photography!! I really hope they work well for her!

The first are a crowns!

There are 3 rounds of sc, to whatever length you want it to be. The peaks of the boys crown are 2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc in the same stitch. Where the girls crown has a pattern of the smaller peaks, and larger peaks that are 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc.

I made them big enough to fit bigger babies, and can be pinned to fit the smaller babies.

The next thing I made was this super cute and simple monkey hat with ear flaps! Using the same pattern that I did with this baby hat with ear flaps, all I had to do was add little monkey ears!

All the monkey ears are, 12 sc in a magic ring, sc once in each stitch around round 2, and for round 3, sc in front loop only... but not in all of the stitches. Maybe 9 or 10, leaving the others open to sew onto the hat.

Bunny Newborn Baby Prop

I am crocheting some newborn props for my friend over at Shanna Chess Photography, and this, was my first challenge.

Isn't this so adorable!!?

The only real difficult thing to make were the ears... but they weren't that bad.

The hat uses worsted weight yarn and a size I crochet hook.

To Start: Ch 3, sl st in first ch to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3, dc 11 in ring, sl st in third ch.
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc twice in each dc around, sl st in 3rd ch from beginning ch 3. {24}
Round 3: Ch 3, dc twice in next dc. (dc, 2dc) around, dc in last dc, sl st in 3rd ch from beginning ch 3. {36}
Round 4: Ch 3, (dc twice in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) around, sl st in 3rd ch from beginning ch 3. {48}
Round 5-9: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, sl st in 3rd ch from beginning ch 3.
Round 10: Ch 1, turn hat right side out, sc border round the whole hat, sl st in 3rd ch from beginning ch.

To Start Ears: (Make 2 in main color) Ch 20
Round 1: Work 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in each of the next sts, 8 dc in last stitch. At this point your work should be facing back up the chain. dc in each of the next sts, 4 dc in lat st.
Round 2: Continue in the same fashion as round 1, on the final peak where you'd normally work 8 dc, work 3dc, 2tr, 3dc. sc in next stitch, sl st in next and finish off.

To Start Inner Ears: (Make 2 in secondary color) Ch 18
Round 1: Work hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next sts, dc in next two sts, tr in next two sts, dc in next two, hdc to the end of the ch, 5 hdc in last sts. On your way back up the chain, wherever you hdc - hdc, where you dc - do a dc and so on and so forth so that it is symmetrical. At the peak, work 3 sc around, and then sc in every stitch as a border.

With wrong sides facing each other, sc the seconadry color into the main color of the ear. I started at the bottom of the seconadry color because there will be extra room at the bottom of the main color. Sc the two sides of the main color ear together once you had made the border all the way around your ear. This will be the part you sew onto the hat.

After you complete the ears, sew them onto the hat. Finish off with a cute flower!

To Start Flower: ch 7, join with sl st to form ring
Row 1: Ch 1, make 14 dc in ring, join with sl st to in first sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in same sc, (ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc) 5 times, ch 3, sk next sc, join {7 ch-3 sp}
Row 3: Join new color with sl st in first ch-3 sp, ch 1, (sc, hdc, 3dc, hdc, sc) in same as joining, (sc, hdc, 3dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-3 sp around {7 petals}
Row 4: Ch 1, working behind petals, sc around post of first sc on round 2, ch 4, (sc around post of next sc on round 2, ch 4) around, join and fasten off. {7 ch-4 sp}
Row 5: Sl st in first ch-4 sp, ch 1 .(sc, hdc, dc, 2tr, dc, hdc, sc) in same sp as joining, (sc, hdc, dc, 2tc, dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-4 sp around, fasten off {7 petals}
Sew flower to hat.

The Newborn Diaper Cover Pattern uses worsted weight yarn and a size I crochet hook.

To Start: Ch 15
Row 1: dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc across remaining 12 sts, turn. {13}
Rows 2-9: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in each ch across, turn. {13}
Rows 10-13: Ch 3, 2 dc in same ch as the ch 3, dc across, 3 dc in last ch, turn. {On Row 13 - 25sts}
Row 14-18: Ch 3, 1 dc in same ch as the ch 3, dc across, 2 dc in last ch, turn. {On Row 18 - 35 sts}
Row 19: Ch 7 {If you will be using a bigger button, ch more here and at the opposite end}, sl st in 5th ch from hook to form loop, dc in same ch, dc across, 2 dc in last, ch 5, sl st with first ch of ch-5 to form loop, turn.
Row 20: Ch 3, 1 dc in same ch, dc across, 7 dc in ch-5 loop.
Border: At this point, you will sc around the entire diaper cover, starting where the last DC touches the side of the diaper cover. After you have made it to the other ch-5 loop on the other side, 7 dc into the loop and fasten off.
Attach a button to the center of the front.

Make a puff ball with the secondary color, and attach it to the back of the diaper cover. Now you have a cute little button tail for your bunny!!

Dinosaur Newborn Baby Prop

Remember that dinosaur newborn baby prop I made?? Well, the baby is finally here and he had his first photo shoot!

Doesn't he look so cute!? This was the first thing I made for someone, that I had no clue on if it would fit or not. I'm so glad it fit nicely and that the shoot went well!

Be sure to check out the pattern if you are interested in making it yourself.

Bunny Buddy

I have ventured into a new realm of knitting!!!! Well, not too far. Because the body of this Bunny Buddy is practically the same as the knit dish cloth that I make. I did have the help of some you tube videos for this, they're the best way to really learn how to knit! Especially for this visual learner!

The picture is pretty bad, because the flash drowned out some of the color and definition. But it's a cute little bunny buddy!! I got the pattern for it at lion brand. I'm going to post it here as well, because for some reason I cannot view lion brand patterns on my tablet.

I used lion brands Baby's First yarn for this. Which I never realized just how super soft that yarn is!

To make the project, it used just under one whole skein. I did use the rest of the skein to stuff the bunny's head. I figured this was better than the stuff I would have bought at the store, because it's washable. It's just as soft inside, and it uses up the remainder of that yarn that would have just gone to waste!

Dinosaur Newborn Baby Prop

This is what I was attempting to make:

This is what I made:

Do you not love the little cabbage patch kid that I put it on?! I needed to get an idea to see if the spikes really did work, and stand up and were positioned well... and I thought, why not put it on the cabbage patch kid?!

I'm really excited about this, and I can't wait to see how it looks on the baby once he is born. I hope that when they take him to get his professional photographs done, it'll look just as cute as the original one at the top.

The pattern I used is from here. I modified it just a tiny bit.

The Newborn Diaper Cover Pattern uses worsted weight yarn and a size H crochet hook.

To Start: Ch 15
Row 1: dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc across remaining 12 sts, turn. {13}
Rows 2-9: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in each ch across, turn. {13}
Rows 10-13: Ch 3, 2 dc in same ch as the ch 3, dc across, 3 dc in last ch, turn. {On Row 13 - 25sts}
Row 14-18: Ch 3, 1 dc in same ch as the ch 3, dc across, 2 dc in last ch, turn. {On Row 18 - 35 sts}

The pattern I used to help create the spikes can be found here.

The Dinosaur Spiked Hat uses worsted weight yarn and a size H crochet hook.

To Start: Ch 3, sl st in first ch to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3, dc 11 in ring, sl st in third ch.
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc twice in each dc around, join. {24}
Round 3: Ch 3, dc twice in next dc. (dc, 2dc) around, dc in last dc, join. {36}
Round 4: Ch 3, (dc twice in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) around, join. {48}
Round 5-9: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join. DO NOT FASTEN OFF unless changing colors.

At this point you will be working in rows.
To Start: sl st in the next 10 sts on the hat.
Row 1: ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in next 17 sts, turn. {18}
Row 2-15: ch 3, dc across, turn. {18}
Row 16: ch 3, dc2tog, dc in next 12 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st, turn. {16}
Row 17: ch 3, dc2tog, dc in next 10 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st, turn. {14}
Row 18: ch 3, dc2tog, dc in next 8 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st, turn. {12}
Row 19: ch 3, dc2tog, dc in next 6 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st, turn. {10}
Row 20: ch 1, sc border around the whole project, join by sl st in starting ch 1, fasten off.

To Make Spikes: Start with an adjustable ring.
Round 1: ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join with sl st. {6}
Round 2: ch 1, (1 sc in next, 2 sc in next) 3 times, join. {9}
Round 3: ch 1, 1 sc in each sc, join. {9}
Round 4: ch 1, (1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next) 3 times, join. {12}
Round 5: ch 1, 1 sc in each sc, join. {12}
Round 6: ch 1, (1 sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next) 3 times, join. {15}
Round 7: ch 1, 1 sc in each sc, join. {15}
Round 8: ch 1, (1 sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next) 3 times, join. {18}
Round 9: ch 1, 1 sc in each sc, join then fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.. {18}

Sew your spikes on the center of the hat. I started with the tip of the tail and worked my way up, making each spike as I went along to make sure I didn't make too many spikes.

Edited to add the picture of the little munchkin when he was born!

Despicable Me Minion Crochet Hat

My cousin had professional photos done of her son in the Despicable Me Minion Crochet Hat I crocheted for him! He looks so stinking cute!!

Seeing it on his head nicely here, it looks like I could have added an extra row or two, so i'll edit my original post about it. But how cute is he??

Circle Gets the Square preemie baby blanket

My cousins son was born 9 weeks premature. He is such a little tiny thing and he's finally home from the hospital. I wanted to make her a blanket that would fit his current size. I knew he would be getting a lot of blankets that were way too big, but I think this one would be perfect for the little snuggles now.

I made two separate types of squares and joined them together the way I joined these together.

For the border, I added a granny style all of the way around. I ended up doing 4 rows around my squares.

The first square I made was this one below, the original pattern came from here.
Special Abbreviations
FPdc (Front Post double crochet): Yo,
insert hook from
front to back to front around post of indicated st; yo and
draw up lp, [yo and draw through 2 lps on hook] twice.

To Start: Make an adjustable ring, ch 3.
Round 1: 11 dc into ring, join {12}
Round 2: Ch 3, FPdc around same dc as join, (dc in next dc, FPdc around same dc) repeat 10 more times; join {24}
Round 3: : Ch 3, dc in next st, FPdc around same FPdc, (dc in next 2 sts, FPdc around same FPdc) repeat 10 more times; join {36}
Round 4: Ch 3, dc in next 2 sts, FPdc around same FPdc, (dc in next 3 sts, FPdc around same FPdc) repeat 10 more times; join and fasten. {48}
Round 5: sl st into any sp, ch 3, 2 dc into same sp, ch 1, 3 dc into same sp, ch 1, (sk next 4 sts, 3 dc in same sp, ch 1, sk next 4 sts, 3 dc, ch 1, 3dc in same sp) around, join and fasten.

The second square I made was this one below, the original pattern came from here.
To Start: Make an adjustable ring. Ch 3
Round 1: dc into ring, ch 1, (yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull the loop back through the stitch (three loops on hook), yarn over and pull through two loops on hook (two loops left on hook), yarn over and pull through remaining two loops, ch 1) 7 times, join and finish.
Round 2: sl st into ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc into same sp, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) around, join and fasten.
Round 3: sl st into ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc into same sp, ch 1, 3 dc into same sp, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc into next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc into same sp) around, join and finish.
Round 4: sl st into ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc into same sp, ch 1, 3 dc into same sp, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc into next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc into same sp) around, join and finish.

Bearded Beanie Hat Pattern

The original post for this Bearded Beanie Hat is located here.

The birthday party for the sweet little 1 year old was today. He got the hats I made him and it was too cute! However, when we tried to get him to wear the bearded hat, it didn't go so well.

Look how cute!! He just wasn't having it, which is a good thing I made the beard removable. I do hope that the beard is something that he could get used to after a little while though. Maybe when it's a little quieter and less people around? As the mom was putting the hat on though, the beard did look a little big.

Which I found very funny! After I made the original pattern, I thought to myself that the beard was way too small. So I made it a little bit longer. However, now, it looks like it would have been perfect the first time around.

There was an 18-month old at the party as well. Just so I could get an idea... we had him try it on. Again, he didn't like the beard. But he was able to wear it for a quick minute so I could snap a picture and get an idea.

Yup. The beard is too big. I think with just the extra length I added onto the side taken off, it should be fine!

I am going to post the pattern for the beard, even though it may not be 100% perfect. If you have a little one in front of you, you could always do a little trial and error. If you attempt this pattern, please let me know! I'd love to hear how it came out and if you changed anything!!

To make the beard:
To start, chain 31.
Row 1 - sc in second ch from hook and in each st across. {30}
Row 2 - ch 1, turn, sc across. {30}
Row 3 - ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc to last 2 sts, sc2tog {28}
Row 4 - ch 1, turn, sc in next 7 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 10 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in last 7 sts {28}
Row 5 - ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in next 9 sts, sc2tog, dc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 9 sts. {24}
Row 6 - ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in next 9 sts, sc2tog, dc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 9 sts. {22}
Row 7 - ch 1, turn, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next st, ch 10, skip 10 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next 5 sts {22}
Row 8 - ch 1, turn, sc in next 4 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc 10 times in ch sp, 3 dc in next st, sc in next 4 sts.
Row 9 - With wrong side facing you, ch 1, sc 6 times on the edge of the beard.
Row 10 - Repeat row 9.
Row 11 - ch 1, turn, sc in next 2 sts, ch 3, skip 2 sts, sc in remaning sts. {This makes the button loop for the removable part of the beard. If you are sewing your beard into the hat, just repeat row 9.} Fasten off.

On the opposite side of the beard, complete row 9-11. Fasten off.

On my original beard, I repeated Row 9 - 3 times instead of just the once. I think that little tiny added length taken off it'll help a lot!

Despicable Me Minions Crochet Hat

Look!!! It's a Despicable Me Minion!! I know, I know... how freaking adorable, right???

I once again set out to make this without a real pattern to go by, and I think it turned out awesome! This hat is for a 1 year old, so I used a hat size that'll fit 12-24 month olds.

Hat:
Start off with an adjustable ring, and 13 dc in ring.
Round 1: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same st as ch 3, dc twice in each dc around, sl st in third ch. {26}
Round 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc twice in next dc, (dc in next, 2 dc in next) around, sl st in third ch. {39}
Round 3: ch 3 (counts as first dc), (dc twice in next dc, dc in next 2 st) around, sl st in third ch. {52}
Round 4 - 8: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st around, sl st in third ch. {52}
Round 9: Change color, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st around, sl st in third ch. {52}
Round 10 - 11: Change color, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st around, sl st in third ch. {52}
Round 12: Turn hat so that the right side is facing out. ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st, and finish. {52}

Eye:
{White Part} - In an adjustable ring, make 17 tr, sl st into beginning ch and fasten off.
{Black Part} - In an adjustable ring, make 9 sc, sl st into beginning ch and fasten off.
{Grey Part} - Round 1: In an adjustable ring, make 17 tr, sl st into beginning ch,
Round 2: ch 1, sc around in each st, sl st.
Round 3: ch 1, sc around in each st in FRONT LOOP ONLY, sl st and fasten off.

Sew all of the pieces together, and onto the hat.

To make the hair pieces, I pulled up a strand of black yarn around one of the dc and tied it in a knot. Then cut to an appropriate length. You can do this as little or as many times as you'd like.

And that's it!! So very simple!!

As you can see, he loved the hat!! He didn't wear it long, so she didn't really fool around with it to make it fit perfectly. However, it looks as though I could have gotten away with making it a row or two longer. That might be something you want to keep in mind as you make one using the pattern above.

Bearded Beanie Hat

I've been wanting to make one of these for a long time. I saw a random picture of someones child with this type of crocheted hat on. Since then I was looking for a pattern for a child's hat, and never found one. So.... here comes in my playing around with some yarn and a hook. This is what I got!

I made this for my cousins little boy. His first birthday party is on Saturday. The best part about this bearded beanie hat is that the beard comes off!!

The beard has button holes and I sewed some buttons into the hat itself. I know how little kids sometimes do not like things on their face, this way, if he doesn't like it, he can still wear the hat.

I did make a pattern for this. However, it has not been tested out on the little boy yet. I have no idea if it'll really work or not the way I made it. So I will not be posting the pattern for a few more days. This is just a little spoiler!

ETA: You can now view the pattern for the beard HERE.

Playful Ripple Baby Blanket

I made this baby blanket for a friend of mine who is having her baby today! It didn't turn out the exact way I wanted it, because I ran out of the green yarn. The yarn happens to be a discontinued yarn as well, so I couldn't easily go out and buy more.

Even though it is not symmetrical, I think it still looks super cute and is a perfect size for a car seat!

I got the idea for this blanket from Red Heart.

You can make this any length you want. Just make sure your chain is in multiples of 18, +2. I made this blanket with a chain of 74. (18 x 4 +2)

Start and end the blanket with a row of sc: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 8
ch, (3 sc in next ch, sc in next 17 ch) until your last ripple, 3 sc in next
ch, sc in last 9 ch; turn

To make a row of regular dc in the ripple pattern: Ch 3, dc2tog, dc in next 7 sc, (3 dc in next sc, dc in next 8 sc, dec dc, dc in next 8 sc) until your last ripple, 3 dc in next sc, dc in next 7 sc, dc2tog, dc in last sc; turn

If you work that row over and over, you'll have a typical ripple afghan. They're one of my favorites.

To put in the "playful" part, or the ripple windows:
Row 1: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 8 dc, (3 sc in next dc, sc in next 8 dc, dec sc, sc in next 8 dc) until your last ripple, 3 sc in next dc, sc in next 8 dc, sc2tog over last dc and ch-3; turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, skip first 2 sc, dc in next sc, (ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc) 3 times, * ch 1, skip next sc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc, (ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc) 4 times, dec dc, dc in next sc, (ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc) 3 times; repeat from * until your last ripple; ch 1, skip next sc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc, (ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc) 4 times, skip next sc, dc in last sc; turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 8 sts and spaces, (3 sc in next ch-1 space, sc in next 8 sts and spaces, dec sc, sc in next 8 sts and spaces) until your last ripple, 3 sc in next ch-1 space, sc in next 8 sts and spaces, sc2tog; turn.

To finish off the last of this yarn, I also made her a baby beanie hat.

I made an adjustable ring, and made 12 dc in the ring. I increased until I had 48 sts. Just like with this hat.

I did 10 rounds total. This should make a 3-6 month hat. :)

Baby Hat with Ear Flaps

There are lots of new babies all around me. So for Christmas I made my cousins son this very cute hat! I got the pattern from Neanners Shop.

I used Bernat Baby yarn because I love love love their yarn! I love how soft it is. Other baby yarns softness doesn't come close!

This hat is not just as baby hat, you can adjust it to any size you may need! However, this is the pattern for 3-6 Months.

Download the Printable Pattern

Baby Hat with Ear Flaps
Ch 3, sl st in first ch to form ring.
Row 1: Ch 3, dc 11 in ring, sl st in third ch.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc twice in each dc around, join. {24}
Row 3: Ch 3, dc twice in next dc. (dc, 2dc) around, dc in last dc, join. {36}
Row 4: Ch 3, (dc twice in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) around, join. {48}
Row 5: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join.
Row 6-8: Change color to make stripe. You can make one solid stripe or change colors like in picture. Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join.
Row 9: Change color back to main. Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join.

To make ear flaps:
Sl st in next 7 st. {You may also cut your yarn and join it in any st}
Row 1: Ch 3, dc in next 9 dc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc2tog, dc next 4 dc, dc2tog, dc in last st, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, dc2tog, dc next 2 dc, dc2tog, dc in last st, turn.
Row 4: Ch 3, dc2tog twice, dc in last st, join and fasten.

Fold hat in half and sl st in dc directly across from last dc from the other earflap. Start again with Row 1.

After the second earflap, use any color and sc around the hat to add a border.

Add braided tassels. I cut 2 pieces of yarn of each color to a desired length and pulled it through one of the st at the bottom of the ear flap. Tied it off with a knot and then braided same colored pieces together. Tied the bottom off with a knot and cut the extra length.

Isn't it super cute!!!!

Baby Hat and Booties

These super cute baby hat and booties are another gift for a family member who just had a baby. The original pattern for the hat came from The Dainty Daisy.

The pattern for the flower is included. The flower pattern is for 3 rows of petals. The hat shown in yellow only has 2 rows of petals. If you choose to only add two, join and finish after the 2nd row.

I found out that baby yarn isn't the best for these. I used a regular 4 ply yarn.

Baby Hat!

I've been making some baby items for some friends and family this holiday season. These tiny items are so quick to make! They come out super cute and are a great gift for anyone with a baby or is expecting.

This hat I made for a friend, I actually haven't sent it out to her yet... so hopefully it'll be a nice surprise!
I used Bernat Softee Baby Yarn:
I love this baby yarn! It's super soft like the name says!
